It took six tries and nearly three months of the season.

For the first time in 2024, the Dallas Cowboys finally celebrated a win at home. On Thanksgiving Day, they defeated the New York Giants 27-20, frustrating quarterback Drew Lock in his debut start for the Giants.

The victory marked a much-needed second straight win for the Cowboys in what has otherwise been a tough season. After starting 0-5 at AT&T Stadium, this home win felt like a long time coming. Adding to the story, they managed it against a struggling Giants team having an even rougher year.

Drew Lock, who joined the Giants in the offseason, didn’t have the debut he hoped for. His day turned sour in the first half when DeMarvion Overshown made a game-changing play. Overshown broke up a screen pass, tipping the ball to himself for an interception and taking it to the house for a pick-six. That touchdown set the tone for Dallas and energized the home crowd.

The Giants had a chance to tie the game or even take the lead as they opened the second half, but things quickly unraveled. Drew Lock was hit with a strip-sack by Eric Kendricks, coughing up the ball. Right on cue, DeMarvion Overshown came through again, pouncing on the loose ball to secure the fumble recovery for Dallas. It was another big moment from Overshown, who seemed to be everywhere when it mattered most.

Six plays later, Rico Dowdle powered into the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown, giving the Cowboys a 20-10 lead and essentially putting the game out of reach. Cooper Rush then added another touchdown pass to stretch the lead to 27-10, and by late in the third quarter, Dallas had firmly taken control.

The Giants did make a late push with a field goal and a scramble touchdown by Lock, trimming the lead to just one possession. The pressure was on as the clock ticked down, but there would be no comeback. The Cowboys held strong, securing the win and improving to 5-7 on the season.

Dallas’ defense was relentless, sacking Lock six times and forcing an interception and a fumble. Lock ended the day completing 21 of 32 passes for 178 yards, with no touchdowns and that costly pick-6.

On offense, the Cowboys relied heavily on their ground game, with Dowdle rushing for 112 yards and a touchdown. Rush, steady in place of the injured Dak Prescott, threw for 195 yards, completing 21 of 36 passes with a touchdown and no turnovers.

The Giants’ season took another painful turn with this loss. Drew Lock became New York’s third starting quarterback this year, following the benching and release of Daniel Jones. Last week, Tommy DeVito got the nod, but the Giants were blown out by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Neither quarterback has been able to spark any hope for a turnaround, and it’s clear the Giants are struggling to stay competitive. With this defeat, New York falls to 2-10, now holding the worst record in the NFL. It’s been a rough ride for the team, and the road ahead doesn’t look much brighter.
